Harry Potter Finale To Be Split Into Two Movies?

The last installment in the Harry Potter movie franchise may be released in two parts - because one edit of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows could leave out too much information about the boy wizard's final adventures. The sixth film in the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is due for release in November, and although the characters' futures are wrapped up in just seven novels by author J.K. Rowling, fans of the movies will be given an extra treat with a double dose of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. A source says, "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on (evil wizard, Lord) Voldemort (played by Ralph Fiennes) that needs to be done really well." And Rowling has briefly commented on the reports herself, stating on her website: "It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long." Fans of the books have previously criticized the big-screen adaptations for their lack of detail.

Guillermo Del Toro poderá vir a ser o realizador: 8)
Deathly Hallows Split in Two?
Harry Potter's final outing may be two separate films.
by Orlando Parfitt, IGN UK

UK, January 14, 2008 - Warner Bros. are apparently considering splitting the filmed version of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows into two halves because of the tome's length.

According to British rag The Mail on Sunday, the crew working on the sixth adaptation -- Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince -- have already been told the news.

The paper quotes an unnamed "film source" who said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

As the Harry Potter books have gotten progressively longer and more complex, the filmmakers adapting them have had to omit increasingly large chunks of material. Many fans weren't happy that The Order of the Phoenix (nearly 900 pages) and The Goblet of Fire (over 700) were compressed into single films.

In recent weeks rumours about who will direct The Deathly Hollows have also been circulating, with Hellboy helmer Guillermo Del Toro and even Steven Spielberg rumoured to be interested in the job.

David Yates Returning for Harry Potter 7?
Source: Lois Lowry
February 20, 2008

Children's and young adult author Lois Lowry says on her official Blog that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince director David Yates will be returning to helm the seventh and last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

Bad news from The Giver Movie front. David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years. Maybe the opening of this film could be held simultaneously with my celebration-of-life service after I succumb to old age? Or the producers will decide to get a different director. Stand by. But without holding your breath.

It hasn't been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures, which is planning a 2010 release date for the film.

It's Official: Deathly Hallows Will be Two Films!
Source: Los Angeles Times
March 13, 2008

After months of rumors, Warner Bros. and the producers of the massively successful movies will announce Thursday that they plan to split Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling's seventh and final "Potter" novel, into two blockbuster films -- one to be released in November 2010 and the second in May 2011, says the Los Angeles Times.

The films will be titled, simply, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, according to producer David Heyman. Director David Yates, who returned for his second tour of Potter duty with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and is quite popular with the cast, will direct both "Deathly Hallows" films, which will be filmed concurrently. Screenwriter Steve Kloves also returns and, by completion of the franchise, will have written seven of the eight films.

Some cynics will see the move as simply doubling the box-office payday, but Radcliffe told the newspaper that the split is purely in service of the story.

Heyman said he approached Rowling with some trepidation about the strategy but found that she signed off on its logic rather quickly. "I went to Jo and she was cool with it," Heyman said, "and that was quite a relief."

Heyman said now that the "Potter" team knows they can split "Deathly Hollows" in half, the next challenge is figuring out the division.

As Heyman put it: "The question will be, where do you break it? And how do you make them one but two separate and distinct stories? Do you break it with a moment of suspense or one of resolution? These are the interesting challenges. But each book has presented its challenges."

Gosto muito dos livros, not so much dos filmes, excepto o 3º e o 4º.
