Empire recently sat down with Sir Ian McKellen, who announced a new development in Guillermo del Toro's The Hobbit.

He said about the progression of the film:

The scripts for the two films will be delivered very soon. Then they'll be budgeted, and then they'll be cast. And they'll be going when they've always said they would be, which is next spring – March or April. Guillermo even told me at one point, 'We're going to film for 383 days.' He's got that artistic autism! [Peter] Jackson's the same; they're very, very, very alike. They also very different, but they've so much in common. They both can't stand Hollywood and have wonderful imaginations, and they're both obsessed with gore and fantasy. Both of them laugh a great deal. Guillermo's one of the most brilliant men I've ever met. His English vocabulary is way superior to mine!

As for what familiar faces will be returning to the franchise, he revealed, “Unforunately, there won’t be many of the actors going back unless they’re going to put masks on and be disguised as dwarves! Andy Serkis is, at the moment, I think, the only other actor who’s doing this film.”

Não há Gimli p'ra ninguém...

John Rhys-Davies told Empire magazine that he has been asked to return for The Hobbit and it's sequel, but has declined. He played Gimli in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and could have perhaps played his father, Gloin, as Gimli doesn't appear in "The Hobbit."

"I've already been asked and to be honest with you, I wouldn't," Rhys-Davies said. "I have already completely ruled it out. There's a sentimental part of me that would love to be involved again. Really I am not sure my face can take that sort of punishment any more."

He added that this time around, "They've got a different set of problems... because you've got 13 dwarves, a whole band of them... You're trying to represent a whole race... You're trying to do for dwarves what 'The Lord of the Rings' did for hobbits."

Muito bom o primeiro livro. Mas a trilogia é escrita juntamente com o Chuck Hogan por isso há a esperança de não termos de esperar muito para sair o segundo livro.

Just this weekend, Peter Jackson revealed that the two "Hobbit" films will now start filming mid-summer 2010 instead of the previously-reported March start. We didn't think this would affect the first film's release of December 2011, but according to TheWrap's WaxWord that might just be the case:

"While it is still possible that it could come out in December 2011, it looks more likely to be 2012," an executive close to the film told the site.

The second film would be pushed back to 2013 then.

Peter Jackson Says "The Hobbit" Prequels are Not Delayed

About a week ago, Peter Jackson revealed that that filming on "The Hobbit" prequels will not begin in March as planned. The plan is now to complete the script for the second film and hopefully get in front of the cameras by summer.

Since the first film is scheduled to hit theaters in December of 2011, that leaves Jackson and director Guillermo Del Toro only 18 months to complete the film. This sparked rumors that the released date would be pushed back, especially since the first "Lord of the Rings" began filming 26 months before appearing in theaters.

Collider has now caught up with Jackson to find out if the shooting delay would affect the previously announced release date. Here is what he had to say:

"Nothing has changed as far as I am concerned. Somebody wrote something on the internet and a lot of nonsense happened. You don't want to believe everything you read on the internet. We were due to deliver the scripts and be shooting sometime around April and now I think I said in an interview we were shooting in June. And somehow people are now saying the film is delayed. As far as I am aware, they are not delayed at all. I am not even sure when we are going to start shooting. We are delivering the scripts. Just after Christmas they'll be finished and we'll be shooting as soon as we possibly can. But you need a certain amount of time to finish the pre-production."

Circulam rumores de que o famoso cantor Tom Waits estará em negociações para representar no novo filme de Guillermo del Toro, The Hobbit. Dotado de uma voz rouca e peculiar, é sem dúvida um actor que permitirá que o universo de Tolkien seja recriado da forma mais mágica possível.

Waits já não é novo nestas andanças da 7ª Arte, tendo sido visto no ainda por estrear no nosso país The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, de Terry Gilliam, mas também vem sendo escolha frequente de Jim Jarmusch, Francis Ford Coppola, e de outros grandes nomes do cinema como Robert Altman e o já referido Terry Gilliam.

Produção procura actores para «O Hobbit»


Guillermo Del Toro e Peter Jackson estão a procurar actores para o elenco principal de «O Hobbit», que deverá começar a ser filmado em Junho, na Nova Zelândia. O realizador e o produtor procuram artistas conhecidos do grande público, tendo já disponibilizado a lista das personagens e o seu perfil.
«O Hobbit», inspirado nos livros do escritor britânico J.R.R. Tolkien, conta o início da história da trilogia de «O Senhor dos Anéis», realizada por Peter Jackson, e deve estrear só em 2012. De acordo com o site Production Weekly, as gravações devem estender-se ao longo de 14 meses.

No entanto, a produção não deve receber um «sinal verde» para começar antes da MGM resolver os seus problemas financeiros. Mesmo assim, tanto a MGM quanto a Warner estão a preparar-se para um lançamento, o mais tardar, em Dezembro de 2012.

No elenco do filme estão confirmados Andy Serkis (que interpretou o Gollum na trilogia do Anel), Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen e Cate Blanchett. Todos voltam aos papéis que interpretaram na trilogia. Ainda não há definição sobre o escolhido para interpretar Bilbo, protagonista da história.

Guillermo Del Toro sai da cadeira de realizador depois de passar dois anos com Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh e Phillipa Boyens a preparar o Hobbit. Parece que a situação da MGM faz mais uma vítima.

Por acaso, não gostava de ver o Raimi no projecto... não sei bem porquê, mas tenho o feeling de que não é a pessoa certa. Bom mesmo era que o Peter se deixasse de tretas e realizasse este e pronto. Sobretudo depois do flop que foi o Visto do Céu.

Mal por mal prefiro o Sam Raimi. Mas concordo com o Cabeças. O Peter Jackson já se deixava de tretas e realizava os dois filmes.
